A complete, India-focused roadmap to become a Senior Secondary (Classes 9–12) teacher. Covers subject specialization (Graduation + Post-grad where required), professional qualification (B.Ed / M.Ed), CTET/State TET and state recruitment norms, subject pedagogy, assessment & examination preparation (board-focused), classroom practice for adolescent learners, inclusion, career pathways (TGT → PGT → Head of Department), and continuous professional development. Prioritises free learning options and gives paid alternatives with free substitutes so learners are never blocked.
Decide which subject(s) and qualification path are right for you (TGT vs PGT) and collect required documents.
TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher): typically for classes 6–10 — requires graduation + B.Ed or equivalent. PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): typically for classes 11–12 — requires a Master’s degree in the subject + B.Ed (and sometimes additional qualifications as per school/state). University lecturer roles follow UGC norms (NET/JRF) and are separate from school teaching.
Select subjects where you have strengths (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics, English, History). For PGT, plan to do a relevant Master’s if you don't already have one.
